Introduction

“The dawn of enlightenment in the form of Higher Education came to the soil of Surada in 1978 with the establishment of Rushikulya College by the local elites. Initially the Intermediate Arts class was opened. The Berhampur University granted affiliation to this institution in 1982. However due to change in Education policy by the Govt. (10+2) the affiliation status of the college was changed and CHSE became its affiliating body. Since then no notable effort was taken for opening of Degree classes till 1994. In 1994 the then Principal of Rushikulya College Sri Bijaya Kumar Panda, Sri A.N. Singhdeo the late Raja Saheb of Dharakote, some other local elites and people from civil society took serious efforts towards establishment of a Degree College in Surada. The efforts of this noble thought was materialized in the form of Rushikulya Degree College keeping the sanctity of river Rushikulya intact. It not only commemorates the glory of the holy river but also celebrates the purity, Sanctity beauty as well as the heritage of educational values.

COLLEGE EMBLEM(THE CREST)

"The College “Emblem” symbolically represents three distinct themes. 1.The Lamp and Open Book symbolizes learnining & wisdom and the Vedic hymn ”Tamaso Maa Jyotirgamayah” in sanskrit around the lighten lamp symbolizes Enlightenment from darkness. 2. The flowing River,Temple,Trees ,The Rising Sun on the left symbolizes Peace, Tranquility, Purity, Sanctity & Nature’s Beauty . 3.The Reservoir and Mountain symbolizes depth of Knowledge and height of Excellence respectively. The symbols precisely signify that the Rushikulya Degree College provides Life,Light,Hope,Ambition & Moral elevation for alround prosperity.."
